John G. Gill, Jr.
Date of Death: April 7, 2017 


Formerly of Darnestown, MD, died April 7, 2017, at Asbury Methodist Village (AMV), Gaithersburg, MD after a long illness.

John grew up in West Newton, Massachusetts. He graduated from The Catholic University of America and Boston College Law School. His first legal employment was with the Justice Department, Land and Natural Resources Division, Appellate Section. This was followed by four years of experience with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C.

In 1972 John started his private practice which eventually became Gill, Sippel & Gallagher in Rockville, MD. He also taught Trial Practice/Advanced Criminal Procedure for 35 years as Adjunct Professor at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

John is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Roberta “Bobbie”, a brother, Robert (Rita) of Green Harbor, MA, and six children.

Theresa Lyman of Framingham, MA; John the 3rd (Christy) of Dresher, PA; Katherine (John) Ketchum of Alexandria, VA; Susannah (Jim) Lapping of New Market, MD; Damien (Becky Leonard) of Portland, OR; and Genevieve (Andy) Gillette of Arlington, VA; and nine surviving grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Paul, and grandson, Simon Gillette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 18th, in the Guild Chapel at Asbury Methodist Village, 301 Odendhal Ave., Gaithersburg, MD at 11:00 AM. Family will receive friends before the Mass and a reception will follow.

Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the AMV Benevolent Care Fund, 201 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
