Zachary J. Pappadeas
December 11, 1953 – October 29, 2004


On Friday, October 29, 2004, Attorney Zachary J. Pappadeas, of Columbia, MD died at the age of 50 of lung complications at Howard County General Hospital. He lived a full life.


In 1975 he graduated from Villanova University in Villanova, PA. He was a 1979 graduate from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Baltimore, MD. He was a member of the Bar Association for Maryland, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia. He was past president of the Alumni Association for the Washington, D.C. area and was an avid basketball fan. He was present at the Villanova/Georgetown University basketball game in 1985 when Villanova University beat Georgetown to become the NCAA champion.


From 1980 to 1985 he was in private practice that focused on general civic and criminal cases in Silver Spring, MD. From 1986 to 1993 he was a partner with Lawlor and Pappadeas. From 1994 until the time he closed his practice he focused on the area of real estate settlement, refinances, and landlord and tenant concerns.


In 1995, after being diagnosed with chronic leukemia he became an active fundraiser. In 1999 he had a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor who was from Italy and continued to raise money for leukemia research. He served as a support counselor for new leukemia patients. He remarkably survived for five years following the transplant and went into remission.


He was a former member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Washington D.C. and a current member of the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew's in Columbia, MD for 10 years. He was an accomplished pianist, artist, avid golfer, tennis player and sang in the Villanova University Choir.


Beloved son of the late James and Emeline Pappadeas; devoted husband of Mary Kay Pappadeas; cherished father of James and Alexis Pappadeas. He is also survived by an aunt, Alexandria Payne, several in-laws, and numerous cousins and a large circle of friends who were considered as family.
