Mr. Butler was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island. He was graduated from Bayside High School and then served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946. He was in the Pilot Training Program until the program was severely cut back as World War II came to an end. After his military service, Mr. Butler obtained his undergraduate degree from American University. Arthur then worked full time as a claims adjuster for GEICO Insurance, then United States Fidelity & Guarantee Company while attending law school at night at American University's Washington College of Law. Although Mr. Butler had intended to devote himself to the improvement of his golf and tennis games when moving to Pinehurst, he found himself taking on new cases when clients prevailed upon him to handle their legal matters. Mr. Butler was an extremely skilled and knowledgeable trial attorney and was well respected for his honesty and integrity. He was a long standing member of the Montgomery County, Maryland State, District of Columbia, North Carolina and American Bar Associations.
