APALRC advocates for the legal and civil rights of Asian Pacific Americans in the D.C. metropolitan region through activities in two program areas: Direct Legal Services and Advocacy. APALRC currently provides legal advice and representation on various legal matters, including domestic violence and family law, immigration, housing, and employment, to low-income, limited-English proficient Asian Americans in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The APALRC’s legal helpline is staffed by law student volunteers who speak Cantonese, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Urdu, Vietnamese, and other Asian languages. When you call the hotline, someone who speaks your language will ask you questions about your legal issue. Depending on your legal problem and your income, you may be eligible for free or reduced-fee legal services from the APALRC or one of the partner organizations. In addition to handling family law, consumer/credit, employment, housing, tax, and more, they also provide immigration relief options for survivors of domestic abuse.
