Speaker:         Diane Seltzer Torre, The Seltzer Law Firm

In this brave new world of 24/7 social media posting, employers have the ability and sometimes the duty to monitor their employee’s feeds—and they may not like what they see. In the face of an employee’s questionable private conduct, employers often ask their attorneys, “Can we fire an employee for doing that?” Employers must take care in punishing employees’ speech, as certain types of activities are protected, but employees also need to realize their off-duty conduct may have legal consequences in the workplace. Learn about the parameters of an enforceable social media policy for your clients, and how to advise them on these critical employment decisions.

Ms. Torre has been practicing employment law for xx years, and regularly represents and advises employers and employees in all aspects of employment law and litigation.  She is a frequent speaker for the DC Bar, is a past Chair of the DC Bar’s CLE Committee; she was also the Chair of the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland’s Employment Law Committee as well as the past Co-Chair, American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Employment and Labor Relations Committee
