New Practitioner Section

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Bar Association’s First Section Fair/Open House a resounding success.  A special thanks goes out to the Judges, Magistrates, and seasoned attorneys who showed their support for BAMC by showing up and interacting with the New Practitioners and Law Students.  It is by your example that the new lawyers will continue their involvement and further BAMC’s mission.  Thank you as well to all of the Sections and Specialty Bar Associations who tabled at the event.

The 2017 Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Gaithersburg Hilton. The New Practitioners Section will be presenting The New Practitioners Guide to Building Your Practice in Today’s World with speakers Donald A. Rea, Esq., Partner at Saul Ewing LLP and Dean D. Jill Green, Assistant Dean of Law Career Development at the University of Baltimore School of Law.  The focus of the program will be on developing your business plan, whether as a solo or as an associate in a firm, and utilizing social media to appropriately market yourself. Make sure to register!

CHAMBER CHATS

Please join us on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 12:30 PM, for a special Chamber Chat!  Judge Karla N. Smith and Judge John M. Maloney will be co-hosting this Chamber Chat.  The Chamber Chat will be held in Conference Room #4600, South Tower, 4th Floor of the Circuit Court.

Judge Smith has been on the Circuit Court bench since January 23, 2015.  Prior to that, she served as Assistant State’s Attorney from 1996 until she was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County, in August 2012.  Judge Maloney joined our Circuit Court bench on January 30, 2015.  Prior to that, he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney from 1989 – 2007, and as a Deputy State’s Attorney from 2007 – 2015.
Judge Smith is currently in the CINA and Family rotation and beginning July 2017 will be on the Civil rotation.  Judge Maloney is currently in the CINA and Family rotation and beginning July 2017 will be on the Criminal rotation.

This is an excellent opportunity for practitioners, both new and experienced, to gain insight and knowledge in how to refine your trial advocacy skills, become a better lawyer and to get to know two esteemed members of our Circuit Court bench in an informal setting.  The Chamber Chat is open to all members of the Bar, not only members of the New Practitioner’s Section.  Bring your lunch and take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions about practicing law in the Circuit Court and learn essential litigation skills.  We encourage all to join!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (301) 738-5700 or jamie.maier@bwg-law.com.  We hope to see you at the Chamber Chat!

MENTOR/MENTEE COMMITTEE
The mentor/mentee program is still accepting new mentor/mentees! This program is designed to aid new attorneys in developing and shaping their future careers through the support, guidance, and recommendations of a senior practitioner. If you have been practicing law for more than seven years, the Mentor/Mentee Committee is looking for your help to mentor and develop the next generation of attorneys in the Montgomery County Bar Association. If you have been practicing law for less than seven years and would like guidance from a mentor, we encourage you to apply to get a mentor. Applications to become a mentor or a mentee are available at http://www.barmont.org/?164.  They can be submitted to Emily Gelmann at egelmann@steinsperling.com.
