Rich Weinfeld, M.Ed. is the Executive Director of Weinfeld Education Group (WEG), http://www.weinfeldeducationgroup.com/rich-weinfeld.html. Rich will share how WEG’s formal, evidence based, school selection reports are being used in family court to help judges decide about which schools are most beneficial to the children in question. Hayley Jacobson, WEG’s School Selection Specialist, will also be on hand to answer questions and provide materials. School Selection is one of the services provided by WEG, www.weinfeldeducationgroup. WEG is a group of nearly 50 educational experts who help parents navigate educational systems to obtain appropriate school services and placement options. WEG provides an expert opinion about what is best for each child’s education. WEG often collaborates in school meetings, advocating for the expert opinion to become a reality for each child.
Montgomery County saw 154,000 new and returning students arrive at the County’s 202 public schools when school started. As we know, a percentage of those students and their families will encounter serious school challenges this school year with issues of student discipline, placement, suspension, and “alternative school” findings. Additionally, a good portion of the County's special needs student population will face significant disputes by parents regarding the provision and implementation of services guaranteed to their children by State and Federal laws.
As attorney members of our section, you will play a crucial role representing students and their families before the local school administration. To become one of the County's go-to lawyers in cases of serious student/family/school disputes, or if you are interested in learning the how to advise clients about school issues, you need to become a member of our section and attend our monthly meetings.
