October 8, 1946 – September 17, 2013
Laurel Anchors was born on October 8, 1946 and passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Laurel’s first career was as a speech therapist. On this path, she met her husband, Dr. Michael Anchors. Before long, she started a family of budding artists and dancers. She was very proud of her three daughters, Sarah, Rachel, and Lindsay. After Laurel became an attorney in 1991, two of her three daughters became attorneys, and one became an animator. Laurel primarily practiced in the areas of employment, domestic relations, and immigration.
Laurel was known for her optimism. She joined a runner’s group and, once she had a bum knee, she became a self-proclaimed member of a recoverying runner’s group. She was devout and committed to social change. In 2004, she became a founding member and Secretary of the Simon Sobeloff Society. In 2007, she became Co-chair of the Employment Law Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County. Laurel’s last public appearance, after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012, was at her daughter Rachel’s wedding where she danced the tango. She was radiant as ever.
Laurel was buried on September 18, 2013, at the Judean Gardens Chapel in Olney, Maryland.
