Henry J. Noyes

Henry J. Noyes died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Southern Maryland from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. The widely respected Montgomery County attorney was 76 years old. Henry Noyes practiced criminal and civil law out of his Rockville offices for more than thirty years, and appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Montgomery County, MD, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Association of Trial Lawyers. He was also active in local politics. He served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Appeals, and ran for Circuit Court Judge and the Maryland House of Delegates. He was a Republican Precinct Chairman, and a Delegate to the 1962 Young Republicans State Convention. He also campaigned for U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, during his unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 1964.
Henry Noyes owned a wide range of businesses, including apartment buildings in Ocean City, Maryland and Naples, Florida, a country store and gas station in Clarksburg, Maryland, and a West Virginia shopping mall. He was born in Buffalo, New York, and attended the University of Notre Dame and the University of Maryland. He graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1960. Before entering private practice, Henry Noyes was Washington District Real Estate Manager for American Oil Company.
Henry Noyes was a decorated World War II Veteran, honored with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served with the Army's 102nd Infantry Division in Germany, and was a sergeant with one of the assault units that linked up with the Russian Army at the Elbe River just before the decisive fall of Berlin. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside Jean, his wife of forty-nine years.
Henry Noyes leaves behind three children: Karen, a mother of two in Gaithersburg, with husband, Frank Lanciano; Mike, owner of Noyes Microsystems in Ocean City, father of two with wife, Candi; and Dan, television anchor/investigative reporter for the ABC Station in San Francisco, and father of two children with wife, Judy.
Henry Noyes was a founding member of the Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church in Rockville since 1954.
Mr. Noyes will be buried at Arlington Cemetery on July 19th at 2p.m.
