The Honorable Gary L. Crawford
March 19, 1949 - April 19, 2013
Judge Gary L. Crawford. 64, who retired from the Montgomery County, MD bench in 2011, died April 19, 2013 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Before retiring to Texas, he lived in Derwood, MD.
     He died after suffering complications from surgery.
     Judge Crawford served five years as a District Court judge. Prior to his gubernatorial appointment, he was a criminal defense attorney, trial lawyer and partner at Clifford, Debelius, Crawford, Bonifant & Fitzpatrick, Chartered. He served on the Executive Committee for the Montgomery County Bar Association and the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Maryland. He was a past President of the Montgomery County Inn of Court and received the highest award given to attorneys, the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Professionalism Award.
     After his retirement to Ft. Worth, TX, he was active in the Mahon Inn of Court of Tarrant County, TX. He served as a mentor to new lawyers for the Tarrant County Bar Association.
     Judge Crawford was born in Harrisburg, PA. He was a 1967 graduate of Trinity High School in Shiremanstown, PA, and a 1971 graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia. In 1978, he received his JD degree from the University of Baltimore. He served as a Montgomery County Assistant State’s Attorney before starting his own practice.
     He was an avid golfer and played in tournaments and on courses throughout the United States, Scotland and Ireland.
     He loved his family and friends… the law and the links.
     He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Agnes R. Ormsby Crawford in Ft. Worth, TX and a sister, Theresa Crawford of Washington, DC.
     His life will be celebrated at the Montgomery County Judicial Center at 4:30 PM on June 7, 2013, followed by an Irish wake at VisArts, Rockville.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at
