Speakers: Raymond Hein, Deputy Bar Counsel; Chuck Miller, Forensic Investigator from the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland; Maria Swaniger, Accounting Specialist and Certified Bookkeeper

Deputy Bar Counsel Raymond Hein and Forensic Investigator Chuck Miller from the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland will explain IOLTA/Trust account recordkeeping and reconciliation requirements and best practices for safekeeping client and third party under Title 19, Chapter 400 of the Maryland Rules.  Mr. Hein also will discuss disciplinary decisions of the Court of Appeals demonstrating the potential consequences of failure to comply with these Rules. Ms. Swaniger will demonstrate by computer screen projection how to use QuickBooks to establish proper Charts of Account corresponding with individual client matters, to properly deduct earned fees from IOLTA/Trust accounts and replenish retainers, and to reconcile IOLTA accounts periodically in accordance with applicable Rules.
