In lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting, we will be hosting a symposium addressing the opioid crisis we are facing in workers compensation, co-sponsored by Commissioner Quinn and the Workers Compensation Commission. I have attached a flyer regarding this event.
Speakers and panelists will include Scott Brown, M.D., Lisa Grant, M.D., David Maine, M.D., and Lynn Staggs, M.D., all esteemed members of our pain management and rehabilitation community. We also are hoping to have someone from Eccleston and Wolf speak on the ethical issues we face when dealing with opioids. Chairman Aumann and Commissioner Quinn will also be participating, and we expect that a significant number of our other Commissioners will be attending and participating. The event will include several presentations as well as group discussion and Q&A.
The event will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 1PM. In order to accommodate the large turn-out we are hoping for, the event will be held at the Baltimore Workers Compensation Commission conference room, 10 E. Baltimore Street. Please note that March 24 is a Commission Meeting day so no hearings are scheduled.
Please note that this is intended to be a state-wide event. If you have colleagues that are not members of this section, PLEASE encourage them to attend. If you are involved in another bar association’s Workers Compensation section, PLEASE forward our invitation on to that section. If you are a member of a firm, PLEASE disseminate this invitation to your colleages. In addition, defense counsel PLEASE encourage your claims professionals (adjusters, etc.) to attend. The event is free and open to all professionals in the workers compensation arena. Adjusters are strongly encouraged to attend.
This is a very critical issue in our community and we encourage you to join us in working towards a solution.
