Services Available to Association Members

Following is a reminder list to veteran members of the Association, as well to new members, who may not know how broadly membership services have been expanded to service you in the practice of law.

Access to programs, materials and influence of the Association at member prices.

Networking through the Section meetings, social functions and educational programs, as well as with the Judiciary.

Tangible Services

1. Newsletter - 24 pages monthly to keep you informed of court schedules, local, state and national news which may affect your practice.

2. Legal Desk Reference - a directory of practicing attorneys, Judges, court personnel and county agencies.

3. Secretarial List - available every Friday at the Bar Headquarters. We advertise weekly in different newspapers for receptionists, secretaries, bookkeepers and law office help: then computerize the list alphabetically for your use in staffing your office. A nominal cost is charged to offset the high cost of advertising.

4. Lawyer Referral Service - a collective marketing effort that enables the Bar Association to refer clients to you.

5. Attorney Resume Clearinghouse - a resume file is kept at the Bar Headquarters, which you may review. We will then xerox that resume for you to take back to your office. In addition, confidential internal box numbers are maintained if you desire to advertise in the newsletter for a specific position and receive resumes in our office in confidentiality.

6. Free Lunch - Yes, there is still a free lunch. Every first Tuesday of the month, September through April, a family style lunch is served at the Rockville United Methodist Church which enables you to get together with your colleagues on an informal basis, just to talk. Association update and business is also conducted at this luncheon, so that you can go back to your law office and say, "Guess What I learned at the Bar Luncheon Today".

Bar Association Programs

1. Administration Of Justice - to assist smooth court processes by working with the administrative judges to work out problems and get the cooperation of everyone involved.

2. Law Practice Management - programs and materials available to you to assist you in running your practice.

3. Fee Dispute Resolution - a committee made up of three person panels, who will review any fee problem which you may be having with a client to resolve the collection of fees.

4. Judicial Selections Panel - a full procedure for recommending judges to the Governors' Judicial Selections Commission. The referendum which is used allows you individual input into these decisions which affect your practice.

5. Legal Ethics Hotline - a sounding panel of attorneys who will discuss with you and give you guidance on ethics questions you may have regarding your practice.

6. Legislation Input - this allows your association to review, recommend and testify on legislation that affects the quality of your law practice.

7. Mentor/Mentee Program - a program that assists young practitioners to learn from a veteran colleague.

8. Lawyer-to-Lawyer - gives you an avenue for assistance in office management problems you may be experiencing, as well as any assistance you or colleagues may be having with substance abuse. This program is totally confidential.

9. Section Membership - There are 20 Sections, which enables you to network with other attorneys, to information, and be an effective lobbying group for issues you feel are important to your practice. Through section membership you are able to participate in community programs.
